GRIFFITH GLEANINGS JANUARY 2017
Happy New Year from a warm and humid Siem Reap Cambodia. Last night we had another rain event making it feel less like the dry season here. Our adjustment to the climate has been helped by a relatively mild four weeks for us which we are very thankful for.
We have now got into a routine of getting up at 5.30am and heading out on an early morning bicycle ride before getting ready for the first half of 4 to 5 hours of language and culture lessons starting at 8am. With so many new things for us to adjust to and learn here we have limited energy levels apart from the cooler early morning hours and after an afternoon rest when we get to fit one in.
Highlights for us to date have been:
1. Starting to use some limited Khmer words with new friends where we regularly buy a coffee, rice or fruit and vegetables.
2. Purchasing our own second hand bicycles.
3. Getting visas for the next 12 months.
4. Early morning bike rides to get to know the geography and sights around Siem Reap.
5. The language learning from the creative and patient language nurturer Kim Lean.
6. Almost getting a bank account after several bank visits.
7. Meeting some old and new friends traveling from Australia that have brought with them some of our excess luggage and memories of Australia.
